Understanding and Managing Tags in Jenius

The Tags module in Jenius allows administrators to organize, label, and filter content across the platform. Unlike Skills, which measure specific sales competencies, Tags are used for broader classification, such as grouping content by product lines, industries, competitor profiles, or internal divisions.

With our latest platform release, Tags are managed as a completely independent feature within the Configuration Hub. This decoupling ensures your organizational labels remain clean, stable, and easy to manage.

Please note: The Tags module is an administrative tool. Standard users and managers cannot create or edit tags; they only interact with them when browsing tagged resources or filtering topics.

How-To Guides

How to Access the Tags Module

Administrators can manage the platform’s tagging structure from the centralized Configuration Hub:

  • Navigation Path: Left-side collapsible ribbon → Configuration HubTags tab.

How to Create a New Tag

To create a new organizational label for your content:

  • Navigate to the Configuration Hub and select the Tags tab.
  • Click the + Add menu and select Tag.
  • Enter the Tag name and description.
  • Click Save. The tag will immediately be available for classifying topics and resources.

How to Edit or Delete a Tag

You can modify or permanently remove custom tags created by your organization:

  1. From the Tags list in the Configuration Hub, locate the tag you want to update.
  2. Click the menu (vertical ellipsis) next to the tag name.
  3. Select Edit to modify the name/description, or Delete to permanently remove it.
    • Note: System-defined tags deployed by the Super Admin ("Jenius Team") are read-only and cannot be edited or deleted by Org Admins.

Key Concepts: Tags vs. Skills

To maintain an organized workspace, it is important to understand how these two administrative metadata features differ:

  • Tags (Broad Classification): Used to categorize content, documents, or topics for easy searching and grouping (e.g., Healthcare, SaaS Product, Enterprise). Tags are descriptive labels and do not measure a user's competency or affect performance scores.
  • Skills (Structured Competency): Used to measure specific sales capabilities (e.g., Discovering Customer Needs, Resolving Objections). Skills must live inside a Skill Framework, map directly to activities, and drive performance analytics inside Jenius IQ.
Crucial System Rule: Skills and Tags are now completely independent. Creating, editing, or deleting a Skill has zero effect on your Tags database, and vice versa.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can I create new tags on the fly while creating a Teach Jenius topic?

No. To prevent database duplication and maintain clean organization across your platform, all Tags must be created beforehand in the Configuration Hub. They can no longer be created on the fly from dropdown menus within other modules.

What happens if I delete a tag?

If you delete a tag, it is permanently removed from the system. It will automatically be unassigned from any Teach Jenius topics or resources where it was previously applied. However, because tags are completely independent of skills, deleting a tag will not affect your performance scores, skill gap analytics, or reports in Jenius IQ.

Can I search and filter by tags?

Yes. The Configuration Hub features a unified search. You can search for tags inside the Tags tab, and switch between tabs while maintaining your search terms. The system’s active counter and page lists will update dynamically.

Admin Recommendations for Best Results

  • Establish a Naming Convention: Before building custom tags, agree on a standard naming convention (e.g., capitalizing the first letter, using singular vs. plural) to avoid duplicate or near-duplicate tags like "Industry-Finance" and "financial".
  • Keep Tags Broad: Use tags for high-level classification (like market segments or product suites). If a tag gets too narrow, it loses its effectiveness as a filtering tool.
  • Audit Periodically: Review your Tags list in the Configuration Hub every quarter to delete unused tags and keep your content library streamlined.
