Understanding and Managing Skills in Jenius

The Skills module defines the structured sales competencies that Jenius uses to classify content, map roles, assess performance, and drive AI-powered coaching and reporting.

Skills act as structured signals within the platform. They provide the necessary framework for Jenius to understand which specific competency your coaching, activities, or performance reports relate to.

Please note: The Skills module is not a learning activity or assessment, nor does it deliver training content directly to users. It is an administrative tool that acts as the backend backbone for AI reasoning and reports.

How-To Guides

How to Access the Skills Module

Administrators can manage the organization's competency framework from the settings panel:

  1. Locate the collapsible primary navigation ribbon on the left side of the screen.
  2. Click on Skills and Tags.
  3. Here, you will see a list of current skills and tags, their types, their sources (whether they are system-defined or created by your organization), and available action menus.

How to Create a New Skill

If you need to add a custom competency that is unique to your organization's sales process:

  1. Navigate to the Skills and Tags page.
  2. Click the Add button.
  3. Select Skill from the type options.
  4. Enter a clear and precise skill name.
  5. Click Save.

How to Edit or Remove a Skill

You can modify or delete custom competencies created by your organization:

  1. On the Skills and Tags page, locate the custom skill you wish to update.
  2. Click the vertical ellipsis (three dots) next to the skill name.
  3. Select Edit to modify the name, or select Remove to delete the skill permanently.
  4. Please note: System-defined skills (created by the platform Super Admin) are locked and cannot be edited or deleted by Organization Admins.

How to Assign Skills to Users and Content

Skills are not assigned directly to individual users. Instead, they are assigned indirectly through other platform modules:

  • In Roles: Map skills to specific functional sales roles to tell the AI which competencies those roles should prioritize.
  • In Teach Jenius: Tag your proprietary topics with relevant skills so the AI knows which files to reference when coaching a user on a specific competency.
  • In Activity Builder: Tag individual quiz or track questions with skills to ensure performance scores are routed to the correct reporting metrics.

Key Concepts: Skills vs. Tags

To keep your organization's database clean, keep the following definitions in mind:

  • Skill: A structured, defined sales competency used to assess performance, direct AI coaching, and generate reports.
  • Tag: A broader classification label used for general organization. Skills are a specialized, high-priority type of tag.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can I create new skills while building training topics?

Yes. If you are configuring a topic inside the Teach Jenius module and realize a specific skill is missing, you can create and add a new skill on the fly directly from the skills and tags dropdown selection menu.

Why is a skill not appearing in my Jenius IQ reports?

If a skill is active but does not show any reporting data, verify that the skill is actively mapped to active questions in the Activity Builder. If a skill has not been applied to any completed questions or activities, there will be no performance data for Jenius IQ to analyze.

What happens if I delete a skill?

Deleting a skill permanently removes it from the platform. Because skills are the semantic backbone of the platform's reporting, deleting a skill will break your historical reporting continuity and will require you to manually retag all related topics and questions.

Admin Recommendations for Best Results

  • Align with your framework: Align your custom Jenius skills with your organization's existing sales competency framework to keep training and reports consistent.
  • Audit periodically: Review your Skills and Tags list regularly to identify and remove duplicates. Having duplicate skills (such as "Closing" and "Closing the Deal") reduces your overall reporting accuracy.
